This is just a guideline on the perfect bitch cycle. Every female can be different. It might take her longer or shorter to ovulate. They might be slow at the beginning and then speed up getting out of the breeding range very fast.
Ovulation will occur anytime when progesterone is between 5ng/ml and 10ng/ml. The perfect bitch will ovulate when her progesterone levels reach 5ng/ml.
The first vaginal artificial insemination should be performed 48 hours after the progesterone reaches 5 ng/ml.
If you get readings that do not make sense, then re-test.
Sperm survival times in the bitch vary depending on how the semen was preserved. Fresh semen lives 4-6 days in the bitch, chilled semen lives 3 days in the bitch, and frozen semen lives 12 hours in the bitch.
INTERPRETATION OF PROGESTERONE LEVELS:
|0.1-0.9ng/ml ~ 0-2 nmol/L||EARLY READINGS|
|1.0-1.9ng/ml ~ 3-6 nmol/L||RE-TEST IN 3 DAYS|
|2.0-3.9ng/ml ~ 7-12 nmol/L||RE-TEST IN 2 DAYS|
|3.0-4.9ng/ml ~ 7-12 nmol/L||BREED IN 2 DAYS
RE-TEST IN 1-2 DAYS
|5.0 ng/ml ~ 13-31 nmol/L||OVULATION HAS OR WILL OCCUR SHORTLY
BREED IN 1-2 DAYS
|5.0-7.9ng/ml ~ 32-64 nmol/L||START BREEDING|
|8.0-10.0 ng/ml ~ 32-64 nmol/L||BEST TIME TO BREED
|10.0-15.0 ng/ml ~ 65-90 nmol/L||MIGHT BE LATE|
|>15.0 ng/ml ~ >90 nmol/L||MOST LIKELY LATE|
Progesterone in ng/ml x 3.18 = Progesterone in nmol/L
Progesterone in nmol/L ÷ 3.18 = Progesterone in ng/ml
LH surge occurs 24 - 36 hours before ovulation. There is a test available for this. It must be done daily for better results.
